Sycamore's Quiz Bowl Team Sets State Tournament Record; Both Teams Qualify for Nationals

Sycamore competed in the Indiana Junior Academic Quiz Bowl State Tournament on Saturday, February 24. Sycamore Team A (Evan Ting, Gavin Sigua, Jeffrey Kirkenedall, and Shayen Maun) finished 1st overall in a record-setting performance, ending with a perfect record of 8-0. Sycamore Team B (Lila Epstein, Aditya Bhatia, Amy Cui, Leo Salerno, and Daniel Bazeley) finished 2nd with a record of 6-2. The final match was an all-Sycamore Quiz Bowl final for the championship. Team's B's only two losses came against the other Sycamore squad.

With their finishes, both teams qualify for the National Quiz Bowl Tournament in Chicago on May 11.

Evan Ting averaged 106.67 points per game for Team A to lead all scorers and Team B's Lila Epstein was 2nd in scoring at 75 PPG.

Sycamore's Team A recorded the top all-time performance over the course of an entire National Academic Quiz Tournament (NAQT). Their efforts at the state tournament broke the middle school record, previously set in 2014, for all-time best performance over the course of an entire NAQT tournament, measured by points per 20 tossup questions. Sycamore scored 670.0 points per 20 questions. They broke the mark of 654.44 set by Kealing (TX) Middle School, set in September 20, 2014.

Congratulations to both teams on their 1st and 2nd place finishes! Sycamore's Quiz Bowl teams are coached by MS History Teacher Tony Young.
