Testing/Screening
Since Sycamore is a school for intellectually gifted children, it is important to determine whether or not Sycamore might be a good match for the child's intellectual ability. As such, each candidate for admission must complete an individually administered intellectual assessment.
Preschool screenings are scheduled through the Enrollment Management Office and are conducted by individual appointment throughout the year. The screening fee is included in the application fee.
To remain at Sycamore after Early Childhood, children who enroll in Preschool must complete an individually administered intellectual assessment (IQ testing) during Kindergarten. Children must show positive progress and potential while also scoring at or near the Very Superior range of intelligence on this IQ testing.
Candidates for admission to Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade must complete individually administered IQ testing (an age-appropriate Wechsler Scale), with a Full Scale IQ score at or near the Very Superior range.
Sycamore School partners with two preferred testing psychologists, Jared Outcalt, Ph.D., and Joelle Larsen, Ph.D., who provide efficient scheduling in slots reserved for potential Sycamore students at a reduced cost (currently $500). As part of scheduling with one of them, families understand that the results will be released to Sycamore. If an applicant tests with one of Sycamore's preferred testing psychologists and enrolls at Sycamore within two (2) years of the testing date, the family will receive a credit for the reduced-cost testing fee on that student's first tuition bill. If a retest is needed, Sycamore will only give credit for the test used when admission was offered.
Contact Dr. Outcalt or Dr. Larsen directly to schedule an appointment for testing. Please be sure to provide your phone number when you contact either of the testing psychologists, as sometimes it is easier for them to reach you via phone more quickly than via email.
