Sycamore's Ryan Kandel Named Indiana School Nurse of the Year

Ryan Kandel

The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) and Indiana Association of School Nurses has named Sycamore School's Ryan Kandel as 2023 School Nurse of the Year of the Year for the state of Indiana.

Ryan, who has been the school nurse at Sycamore since 2019, will be celebrated at the upcoming NASN annual conference during the Lily Awards in Orlando, Florida on June 30. Kandel will also be featured in the fall issue of the NASN School Nurse.

"I'm so proud of Ryan--and not at all surprised that he won this award," said Diane Borgmann, Sycamore's Head of School. "He is an amazing asset to Sycamore. He serves our kids every day with compassion and gentleness. We're all celebrating with Ryan."

In addition to his daily care of the Sycamore students and staff, he was integral as part of the team at Sycamore School that created Covid protocols for our community. Since March 2020 Ryan has maintained his own database of Covid numbers, following trends and mining data for indicators of spikes in infection.

"We are so proud of Ryan's accomplishments as he exemplifies the best of school nursing. Sycamore's students, faculty, and families are fortunate to have him in their community," said Linda Mendona, President of the National Association of School Nurses
