VEX Team Qualifies for State Championship, Two Earn Tourney Wins

At Zionsville
Debuting their new robot in competition, 10775R won Excellence, Teamwork, and Skills at the Zionsville Winter Middle School Tournament. During teamwork finals with the Zionsville squad, Sycamore scored a 102 to easily outdistance the 66 scored by the second place alliance of teams from Zionsville and Guion Creek. 10775R team members include 7th graders: Derek Ai, John Coutant, AJ Rhea, and Simon Williams. With their performance, 10775R earned an automatic bid to the State Championship held on Saturday, March 7.

At Heritage Christian

CyberEAGLES Squads 10775A and 10775C won the Teamwork Championship at Heritage Christian in a dramatic tiebreaker match. After tying at 134 in the first round of finals, 10775A and 10775C, who were 1st and 2nd after qualifications, won 150-122 over an alliance of Heritage Christian and Center for Inquiry teams. In addition, 10775A claimed the Excellence and Skills awards. 10775A now ranks 2nd in Indiana and 5th in the World Skills Standings. 10775A team members include: Sarah Hinchman, Arnay Garhyan, Sophie Liang, and Rishi Nagireddy.

10775C, with team members Garrett Hur, Mukund Sagi, Ben Wei, and Owen Zhang, finished 2nd in skills on Saturday and raised their ranking to 10th in the State and 61st in the World.

Also competing at Heritage Christian, 10775J rallied to finish 3rd in Teamwork and 10th in skills after a very tough morning session. The team, made up of 8th graders, Hasini Ambaty, Kavya Devarapalli, Vidhatri Iyer, and Riti Tandra claimed the Design Award for having a strong engineering notebook and the team interview.

Competing in their in-person event outside Sycamore, the 6th grade team 10775E (Rosh Hinchman, Koharu Hato, and Chloe Sigua) finished 4th in both teamwork and skills. Their state skills ranking jumped to 14th with the strong performance.

All Sycamore CyberEAGLE squads next compete in the Northwest Indianapolis Robotics League finals held from 4-8pm at Sycamore on Friday, February 4.
