Science Bowl Finishes 7th in Nation; Third Consecutive Top 10 National Placing

2024 Sycamore Science Bowl team


Sycamore School Science Bowl team competed in the National Science Bowl Championships April 26 & 27, earning their third consecutive national top 10 finish by placing 7th in the Middle School division. Sycamore finished 5th in the nation the previous two years, and was the national runner-up in 2016.

This year's team also finished third in the National Science Bowl Cyber Challenge, an event held the same weekend in Washington.

In the bowl competition,. Sycamore's team earned a 1st place finish in the Round Robin Preliminary rounds with a record of 5-0 in head-to-head games, earning a place into the double elimination portion of the tournament. Sycamore then won four matches in double elimination and lost close matches to Miller (San Jose, CA) and Fort Settlement (Sugarland, TX) middle schools.

Sycamore eam members are Justin Warren (8th), Gavin Sigua (8th), Shayen Maun (8th), Allison Jeray (6th), and Alex Bramhill (8th). Sycamore is coached by longtime Sycamore science teacher David Schuth, in his 13th year in the position. His teams have earned a spot at Nationals ten times.

The 2024 Science Bowl finals included top teams in the nation, 48 middle school teams who had all won their Regional Science Bowl competitions in order to compete in the National competition. Sycamore qualified for nationals with a first place finish at Regionals in March at Indiana State University.
