Now Hiring: Director of the Center of Excellence in Gifted Education
Position Type: Exempt, Full-Time, 12 months
Reports to: Head of School

Job Summary
The Director of the Center of Excellence in Gifted Education is a new senior leadership
position at Sycamore School. The Center Director is the chief administrator for all twice
exceptional (2e) and social-emotional learning (SEL) efforts for the entire school. This
Director will serve as the local authority and thought leader on gifted education, and will
ensure that Sycamore aligns programming and activities to the needs of gifted learners.
The Director oversees the Learning Resource Team and works collaboratively with
Division Heads.

Duties and Responsibilities
● Develop operating policies and procedures and communicate to administration,
Learning Resource Team, faculty, students, and parents as appropriate
● Coordinate all activities with Division Heads
● Manage budget in coordination with CFO
● Engage in marketing and communication efforts with the Advancement Office
● Oversee professional development for teachers and teaching assistants
● Provide and arrange for regular and ongoing parent education
● Arrange for outside speakers featuring experts in gifted and 2e education and SEL
● Direct the School’s efforts toward meeting Lilly Endowment grant outcome goals in
order to provide regular and timely updates to Lilly Endowment regarding progress
● Seek partnerships with universities
● Represent Sycamore School and promote the Center of Excellence in Gifted
Education to the outside community and those within the field of gifted education
● Stay abreast of the latest research on gifted education, and provide information to
faculty and staff
● Serve on the Senior Leadership Team
● Support essential operations of the school through one’s presence and volunteerism
outside the core responsibilities listed above
● Participate in professional development to remain current in the field of gifted
education, 2e, and SEL.

Knowledge, Skills, Characteristics, and Abilities
● Ability to supervise personnel
● Strong organizational and time management skills
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives
● Well-developed interpersonal skills

Credentials and Experience
● 5+ years in gifted education at the preschool, elementary, or middle school level, with
experience in an independent school preferred
● Senior leadership experience in an educational setting
● Relevant experience in SEL and/or 2e
● Masters degree in gifted education or related field, with a PhD preferred
