Camp Descriptions

Sycamore Academy Summer Scholars Week 1

June 10th - 14th, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm, 4th - 8th Grade, Cost $275 for the week.  The Sycamore Academy Summer Scholars day camp is tailored toward academically motivated and curious students looking for an invigorating summer camp experience designed to challenge the students academically in a fun atmosphere.  The goal is to provide high academic impact while maintaining a low stress environment typical of a summer camp.  Each morning students will experience 2 academically challenging courses followed by an all camp activity.  Each afternoon students will have a resource time to work on material from the morning classes and then finish with an exciting, week long problem based learning activity.  

Sycamore Academy Summer Scholars Week 2

June 24th - 28th, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm, 4th - 8th Grade, Cost $275 for the week.  The Sycamore Academy Summer Scholars day camp is tailored toward academically motivated and curious students looking for an invigorating summer camp experience designed to challenge the students academically in a fun atmosphere.  The goal is to provide high academic impact while maintaining a low stress environment typical of a summer camp.  Each morning students will experience 2 academically challenging courses followed by an all camp activity.  Each afternoon students will have a resource time to work on material from the morning classes and then finish with an exciting, week long problem based learning activity.  

Elementary Problem Solving and Computer Science

July 15th - 26th, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 3rd - 4th Grade, Cost $275 for both weeks, $150 for one week.  Students will spend half the morning solving interesting math problems in Elementary Problem Solving with and the other half of the morning writing programs in Elementary Computer Science. 

Robotics Camp

July 15th – 25th (Monday - Thursday), 1 pm – 4 pm, 5th – 8th Grade, Cost $150/wk or $275 for both weeks. Students will learn to program a basic LEGO Mindstorms robot, then build a robot of their own design to conduct specific tasks.


July 15th –26th, 9 am – 12 pm , 5th – 8th Grade, Cost $275 for both weeks, $150 for one week. Students will take the rolls of astronaut, mission scientist, spacecraft technician, medical officer, flight control leader, mission analyst, and more. After training for these positions, the team will conduct a simulated space flight in Sycamore’s Space Shuttle Simulator. While in “space” the astronauts will conduct science experiments and solve problems thrown at them by mission control personnel.


July 15th – 26th, 9 am – noon, 5th – 8th Grade, Cost $175/wk or $300 for both weeks. Mr. Tormoehlen and Mr. Fischer have worked together to develop . It is our most popular offering with well over 100 students attending last year. The primary focus of this camp is to teach students math problem solving skills. We focus on general problem solving techniques, but also teach specific lessons on material not often taught in a traditional classroom. This camp is also designed to help students wanting to improve in the popular middle school math competitions MATHCOUNTS and AMC 8.


July 15th – 25th (Monday – Thursday), 1 pm – 4pm, 6th – 10th grade, cost $135/wk or $250 both weeks. This course offers a gentle introduction to fundamental computer science concepts using the Python programming language. Emphasis will be placed on developing problem-solving skills to create software programs and several hands-on activities will be incorporated throughout the course to reinforce concepts and promote active learning. No prior experience is necessary and beginners are encouraged to attend. Week 2 will pick up where week 1 leaves off.

Sycamore Debate Camp

July 15th – 25th (Monday – Thursday), 1 pm – 4pm, 5th – 8th grade, cost $135/wk or $250 both weeks.  If you love digging into current, hot topic issues, uncovering holes in your opponents’ positions, and persuading others during arguments come check out debate camp! Debaters of all levels of experience will research and support a variety of assertions for both sides of our topics. The camp is designed so students can attend either week or both weeks. Debates will be in groups of three, so students that attend both weeks will practice more advanced techniques during the second week.
