Sycamore camps have been a tradition since Sycamore School’s founding in 1985.

We are thrilled to provide a variety of exciting and enriching programs for your children. Sycamore camps help children discover new friends, confidence and creativity. We hope your child can join us for our Summer Camp Season June 5 - July 28, 2017.

  


REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!

In 2017, more than 25 different  summer camps are being offered for kids, from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade 
Sycamore is excited that your child is attending camp at the school for gifted students in central Indiana.  All camps are open to all children whether or not they attend Sycamore during the school year.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Enrollment will be limited.  Full payment of fees is required at time of registration.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT DEADLINE: May 12 for June camps June 9 for July camps. There is a $25.00 non-refundable registration fee. Full refunds (minus the registration fee) can be made for a cancellation prior to May 12 (for June camps) or June 9 (for July camps). A 50% refund for cancellation after the May or June deadlines through the Monday prior to the week of your child’s camp.

Extended Day:
MORNING AND AFTERNOON CARE Extended Care is provided for an additional charge. Lunch care is provided free of charge for those campers that attend a full-day camp or a combination of a morning camp and afternoon camp. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch and drink. Snacks will be provided for all camps. Campers will be supervised during an outdoor recess, lunch, and games.
 7:30 – 8:30                             $35 per week
 4:00 – 5:30                             $40 per week
LUNCHTIME (Children provide their own sack lunch) 11:30a – 1:00p / $40 per week (This fee is for campers registered for onlymorning camp or afternoon camp; If a camper is at a full day camp, or both a morning and an afternoon camp, there is no cost.) 

Sycamore Summer Quest reserves the right to cancel a program if there is insufficient enrollment; a full refund will be made.

Unless we have a written letter to the contrary, Sycamore will assume that any picture taken of campers may be used in the Sycamore Summer Quest brochure or website.

NATURE INTERVENTION / Entering Grades 2 – 5

Habitat, nature, hiking, history, flora, fauna, and fun!  On our outdoor journeys we’ll learn from exotic cat rescuers, explore the conservatory, observe aquatic life, and watch early Indiana history come to life.  Each day will bring a new outdoor experience at nature centers such as Garfield Park, Cikana Fish Hatchery, and Mounds State Park.  And what’s camp without crafts, games, food, and songs?


SCIENCE EXPLORATORIUM / Entering Grades K – 2

Instructor: Little Scholars Staff / June 12 – June 16 / 8:30 – 11:30 / $180
Come discover, experiment, and create as we learn about the colliding worlds of art and science in this STEAM-based camp.  We will create biomes from around the world, star gaze at constellations, master meteorology, investigate how things work and dabble in chemistry and physics.  Put on your lab coat and grab your art supplies because this STEAM camp will rock your world.


HARRY POTTER WORLD / Entering Grades 3 - 6

Get ready to escape the land of Muggles and enter the world of Harry Potter!  Campers will use the Sorting Hat to divide themselves into houses, attend Hogwarts classes, and learn to play Quidditch.  We will also read excerpts of the book and watch accompanying movie clips to discuss how this book was translated into a movie.  Be on the lookout for an owl distributing your acceptance letter soon…


JEDIS AND DROIDS LEGO - May the Brick Force be With You / Entering Grades 1 – 6

Join us as we travel to a galaxy far, far away!  The force awakens in this camp based on the super-popular Star Wars movie franchise.  Campers will build many of their favorite designs, including a tie fighter, star fighter, speeder bike and more. We’ll even have fun with Jedi masters, Wookies, and other characters.
Most importantly, kids will connect real science concepts with science fiction!  As always, we will have unique LEGO-themed games, activities, and take-home items.


DESIGN THE RUNWAY / Entering Grades 2 – 5

Design your very own fashion line with us!  Budding designers will create a fashion portfolio, create a one-of-a-kind piece with recyclable goods and end the week with a Runway Show to end Fashion Week!  We will participate in several design challenges, too.  Come design your own runway with us!

BE A FRIEND TO TREES / Entering Grades PK & K

Join me to learn about dendrology, the study of woody plants.  We will gain understanding and appreciation of the importance of trees to all life on earth.  We will realize that our actions can have an impact on trees.  Trees are natural resources and can be extended through decreased use and recycling.

CODING FOR BEGINNERS/ Entering Grades 3 – 6

Instructor: Codelicious / June 19 – June 23 /8:30 – 11:30 / $270
Interested in finding out if coding is for you?  This camp will bring technology skills to life for younger campers.  Campers will build simple computer games and puzzles in a safe and high-energy environment.  This camp will develop a basic understanding of programming utilizing Scratch technology.  Fun additional components include electronic invention, internet safety tips, and interactive activities to learn coding theory.  Utilizing a 1:5 instructor to camper ratio, collaboration skills and confidence building exercises will be integrated into this camp.


MARTIAL ARTS CAMP / Entering Grades 1 – 8

Students will learn the art of Karate (Shorei Goju Ryu) in this fun and exciting camp.  Karate offers many benefits: self-confidence, coordination, discipline, mental strength, focus and fun!  Taught by seventh degree black belt, Sensei Jeanie Gensheimer.


ADVENTURE WITH SPORTS/ Entering Grades 2 – 8

KITCHEN CHEMISTRY/ Entering Grades PK & K

Exploring chemistry + things you find in your kitchen = Kitchen Chemistry!  Not all experiments need dangerous chemicals and fancy labs; you can explore science in your kitchen.  We will be measuring and mixing, cooking and baking.  Science in a kitchen is fun and tasty.

If you like all things LEGO, this is the camp for you!  Five days of fun is waiting as we create a variety of LEGO builds.  We’ll learn, build, and play using our most popular themes: superheroes, dinosaurs, pirates, video games, and more.  Kids will use their imaginations to create LEGO-themed crafts, and interact with all sorts of LEGO contraptions.  It’s a bit of LEGO overload, but that’s a good thing!

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF PHOTOGRAPHY/ Entering Grades 3 - 6

Have you ever wondered how a photograph was made? Well this camp is for you! Campers will explore the medium of photography in many forms. From experimentation with traditional methods of image making - Cyanotype prints, pinhole photography, black and white darkroom to  current techniques in digital photography and photoshop editing. We will have a lot of fun seeing the world around us through a new lens.

Required equipment: a simple point and shoot digital camera (Does not need to be expensive - hopefully it is something you already own!)

BELOVED COMPANIONS PETS CAMP / Entering Grades 1 – 5

Our pets are members of our family.  Unleash your imagination and complete several multi-media art projects of our furry, fishy, feathery, and scaly friends.  Create a personalized painting of your own pet created from a photo that you supply and honor the most spoiled member of your family!  Myart students use the Monart Method of Drawing.  This uniquely designed methodology teaches visual perception and realistic drawing skills.  During the camp, students draw, paint and create art projects all centered on a specific theme using markers, colored pencil, oil and chalk pastels, watercolors and acrylics.
 

PERCY JACKSON - CAMP HALF-BLOOD / Entering Grades 2 –5

RECREATIONAL SPORTS / Entering Grades 2 – 8

It’s summertime!  The time to play is now!  Want to learn some awesome backyard games?  Of course you do!  We will learn classic games like shuffleboard, ladderball, washers, horseshoes, bocci ball, and many more.  We will also play such timeless games like badminton and capture the flag.  Prepare to have fun.

CREATIVE WRITING WITH PROFESSOR WATERMELON / Entering Grades 2 – 6

Join Professor Watermelon on a trip around the world, and learn how to use your new knowledge (the MUSE) to create your own fascinating stories. Explore ways to create memorable characters, exciting plots, and clever dialogue. Professor Watermelon will help you uncover ways to polish and publish your work. And don’t forget the Melon Money you’ll earn for the prize auction after each workshop!

CHECKMATE CHESS / Entering Grades K - 8

Do you know how to play chess?  Never played?  No problem!  Are you a good player who wants to improve?  This is the camp for you.  Taught by the locally famous Learning Through Games group that is known for making chess fun!  Camp will consist of fun lectures, recess, and enjoyable chess games!  Good camp for all levels.

POTTERY FUSION MEGA ADVENTURES / Ages 6 - 12

Instructor: Jeremy South / July 10 – July 14 / 8:30 – 11:30 / $150
Create your very own elephants in a jungle, turtle in the swamp or fish in the sea!  All campers will use clay, glass, glaze and found objects to create masterworks.  Use the pottery wheel to create our own serving bowl.  Everyone will create 7 to 10 projects during the week.  All items will be fired and returned 4 weeks after camp.  
 

ADVANCED CODING / Entering Grades 3 - 6

Instructor: Codelicious / July 10 – July 14 / 8:30 – 11:30 / $270
Take your coding skills to the next level!  This camp will dive deeper into programming by introducing JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.  Fun additional components include electronic invention with littleBits, and an understanding of internet safety.  By the end of this camp, campers will have have learned the basics of JavaScript, CSS and HTML coding languages and will have honed their skills by building interactive websites.  Previous exposure to coding basics is required to register for this course.  Utilizing a 1:5 instructor to camper ratio, collaboration skills and confidence building exercises will be integrated into this camp.

STRATEGY GAMES / Entering Grades K - 8

This camp is for kids that love strategy games.  There will be fun lectures, interactive learning games, and recreation.  Games include Chess, Axis and Allies, Risk, Stratego, and much more!  Kids can also bring in their own games to be played.

VOCAL TONE & HARMONY CAMP (BEGINNER) / Entering Grades 4 - 8

Instructor: Ramsey Phoenix / July 10 – July 14 / 1:00 – 4:00 / $275
Do you love groups like Pentatonix?  Shows like Glee?  These skills form after years of training in the art of vocal technique and tight harmony.  Learn conversational vocal technique from seasoned professional vocalists, and then use those vocal skills to create harmonies you hear in all your favorite groups and shows.  Students in the beginner camp should have some previous experience singing with a group, but vocal training is not required for participation.  Final performance with feature all singers performing together in a wall of sound sure to leave a lasting impression.

TINY TINKERERS / Entering Grades PK & K

Come design, build, concoct, discover, and play!  Pre-K and Kindergarten campers will spend the week learning how to take risks, solve problems, and persevere as they tinker.  Each day campers will challenge themselves as they use various materials to solve problems.

LEGO BAT LEAGUE - Heroes and Villians / Entering Grades 1 - 6

Gotham - a dark city where a dangerous jokester and other evil villains wreak havoc.  Thankfully there is a bat hero who comes out each night to fight these evil-doers!  Campers will use their imaginations, building skills and crime-fighting passion in this thrilling camp of bat heroes and villains!  
The good guys will ride into action as campers build motorized models of the bat hero’s speedy vehicle and bat girl’s sleek motorcycle.  But keep the bat light searching for the evil jokester’s motorized low rider vehicle cruising through the city streets as well.  Send the bat hero swinging on his grappling hook technic model from one skyscraper to the next as he fights crime with his trusty super sidekick.
As always, we will have unique LEGO-themed games, activities, and take-home items.

ACADEMIC OLYMPICS / Entering Grades 2 - 4

Does your child enjoy school, arts, and games?  Then, Academic Olympics is the camp to come to!!  We will discuss five countries, make our own passports, learn a few words from different languages, and discuss traditions.  We will keep our academic skills sharp through projects and experiences related to each country.  Throughout the week, we will also host our own mini-Olympics, competing in games and activities.  
 

FUN WITH CRAFTING / Entering Grades 2 - 8

Are you creative?  Do you enjoy making things with your hands?  Well, this is the camp for you.  We will create different objects everyday.  We will use 3D printer pens, learn origami, make crayons, knit, make clay sculptures, learn the art of shrinky dinks and much, much more.   
 

LEGO BRICK CITY BUILDERS / Entering Grades 1 - 6

Welcome to Brick City where EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!  Iconic LEGO vehicles and buildings form the backdrop as we explore the structures and landscapes of a city.  Campers will work in teams to design and build the city of their dreams, using LEGO bricks.  The architects may plan a road, propose a monument, design a park or school, or imagine a skyscraper.  Builders will put on their “safety hats” and assemble motorized models of construction vehicles and equipment.
If your child loves the LEGO City sets, they’ll love this camp.  We’ll also have unique games and other LEGO activities.

VOCAL TONE & HARMONY CAMP (ADVANCED) / Entering Grades 9 - 12

This advanced camp is for the student who has a passion for vocal harmony and ability to hold parts in close proximity with other vocalists.  Advanced, modern vocal techniques will be emphasized, as well as more complex arrangements and amazing opportunities to share in the art of song with other singers who love it just as much as you do!  Students in the advanced camp must have prior experience singing with a group, but vocal training is not required for participation.  Experience singing in modern musical styles is encouraged.  Final performance will feature some all-group songs and featured small groups.

JUMPING BEAN / Entering Grades PK & K

Hop, Run and Skip to Jumping Beans!  S-T-R-E-T-C-H your muscles and get your wiggles out all while learning about a new sport each week.  Jumping Beans is great for developing gross motor and fine motor skills in a structured format that builds coordination, balance, and confidence.
 

SUPER SLEUTHS / Entering Grades 1 - 4

Get out your magnifying glasses and detective hat as we have clues to decipher and crimes to solve.  We’ll put our critical thinking skills and STEM knowledge to the test and get to the bottom of mysteries by learning the tricks real investigators use to solve cases.  While experimenting with simple detection techniques, our reasoning skills will grow and your problem solving skills will become better than CSI agents.
 

SONGWRITING CAMP for YOUNG WOMEN / Entering Grades 4 - 12

Instructor: Ramsey Phoenix / July 24 – July 28 / 8:30 – 4:00 / $495
This dynamic, one-week experience primarily teaches the art of songwriting for young women.  Included with the all-day camp is extensive instrument instruction in keyboards, guitar, bass and drums (campers try all, but have the opportunity to focus on tow), as well as learning skills in peer-to-peer collaboration and developing a positive self image.  At the end of the damp, these lucky campers will perform with bands comprised of other young women in their age group, performing songs they co-write together during the camp week, under the supervision of skilled professional musicians and instructors.  Now in its sixth year, this amazing opportunity has a limited number of spaces available - apply now!  Experience preferred, but not required.
