    Four Sycamore VEX Robotics Teams Qualify for World Championships

    Sycamore had four VEX Robotics teams competing at the VEX State Competition held at Lucas Oil Stadium this past Saturday (March 25), and all four Sycamore teams qualified for the World Championships in Dallas, Texas beginning in April.

  • History Bowl Team Wins State Championsip

    Sycamore School's team of Evan Ting (7th), Jeffrey Kirkendall (7th), and Gavin Sigua (7th), won the Indiana History Bowl State Varsity Championship on Saturday (February 25) with a win over Bishop Chatard High School in the final.

  • Quiz Bowl Team Heads to National After Sweeping State Tourney

    Sycamore competed as two teams in the Indiana Junior Academic Quiz Bowl tournament on Saturday (March 4), sweeping the top two spots in the final results. Sycamore A ( Sameer Zaidi, Annalisa Schuth, Riva Jain, and Alessandro Salerno) finished 1st overall. Sycamore B (Evan Ting, Gavin Sigua, Jeffrey Kirkenedall, and Shayen Maun) finished 2nd. The final match was an all-Sycamore Quiz Bowl match for the championship.
    Congratulations to both teams on their finishes.

    Sycamore has now secured two spots in the Middle School National Academic Quiz Tournament finals  in Chicago beginning May 12.

  • Sycamore Wins Science Bowl Regional; Advances to National Tournament

     
    Sycamore qualified for a spot in the upcoming 2023 Official National Science Bowl ® on Saturday (Feb.25), as two teams of students from Sycamore competed in the Indiana Regional Science Bowl Competition, a qualifier tournament for the National Science Bowl Competition. Sycamore's Team 1 earned the trip to Nationals, coming back from their lone defeat in the competition, beating Clague Middle School (Ann Arbor, MI) in the finals of the double-elimination tournament to take 1st place overall for the regional competition and will go on to represent both Sycamore School, the State of Indiana, and the Region in the National Science Bowl in late April and early May.

  • Sycamore Inspires: Borgmann Inspiration Fund Chooses Inaugural Recipients

    The Borgmann Inspiration Fund was created to fund opportunities for teachers and other staff to reconnect with the drive that inspired their choice of work in the beginning. Sycamore is proud to announce the first two recipients of the Borgmann Inspiration Fund award.  Sycamore 1st Grade teacher Jennifer Hendry and 4th Grade teacher Julie Clawson were chosen to pursue their projects this summer.  Jennifer will travel and study in the Galapagos Islands while Julie will travel to Australia.

    Sycamore Hosts MATHCOUNTS Competition

    Sycamore returned to hosting the Central Indiana Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition on Saturday, with 128 mathletes back in the building competing for the opportunity to qualify for the State Competition. Sycamore School has been the host site since 2009, with the previous two years of the competition having been held virtually. Sycamore had a strong showing on Saturday, with all students placing in the top 40%, including 10 of the top 19 individual rankings. Shayen Maun (7th Grade) led Sycamore by finishing 5th place overall. Gavin Sigua (7th), Evan Ting (7th), and Sameer Zaidi (8th) each received the same score and finished in 7th, 8th, and 11th place respectively after tie-breakers.

    Sycamore Launches Borgmann Inspiration Fund for Faculty and Staff

    The Borgmann Inspiration Fund was created to show love and appreciation for our teachers and staff and to allow them to think expansively about ways to gain renewal and refreshment of their own professional zeal. Sycamore’s exemplary program rests on the shoulders of outstanding faculty and staff who serve as motivators and exemplars for kids. Unlike professional development funds, The Borgmann Inspiration Fund is to allow the support of additional creative, intellectual, and personal growth, fueling a personal, purposeful interest, such as going on an African safari or an archeological dig.

    Sycamore will continue to offer professional development opportunities to our faculty and staff and the Borgmann Inspiration Fund will go above and beyond those opportunities. Teachers, staff—and students—will benefit as they approach their work with new passion and creative energy.
