Media
The Sycamore School Media Center and Media program exist to promote a lifelong love of reading and to provide resources and instruction to support an enriched, accelerated curriculum. The Media Center provides access to a diverse collection of books for students’ academic success and personal enjoyment. The Media program provides instruction in digital citizenship, print literacy, library skills, research, information, and media literacy for students in preschool through Eighth Grade. The program strives to be a welcoming, affirming space where every student feels represented, supported, and inspired.
EARLY CHILDHOOD
The focus of Library time in Early Childhood is to develop a lifelong love of reading. Students in Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten listen to stories, sing songs, and have time for movement. Kindergarten students listen to stories related to curricular units and begin to learn how the library is organized. Students learn how to find books according to their interests and reading level.
LOWER SCHOOL
Lower School students continue to develop their literacy skills and lifelong love of reading. Students begin to explore genres to broaden their reading preferences. They learn how the library is organized and how to independently locate resources in the catalog and on the shelves. Lower School students also begin online research and learning how to be responsible digital citizens.
