Curiosity, Confidence, Challenge!” is a one-day conference held in Indianapolis for girls of middle school age. The purpose of the conference is to introduce girls to careers in scientific and technological fields before they enter high school. It is designed to stimulate interest in these careers so that the girls may select high school courses which will lead to success at college and beyond.
The format of the conference is a series of small group workshops led by women whose professions include mathematics, science, and technology. At the conference held in 2008, there were 24 available workshops which offered hands-on activities such as: dissecting pigs' eyes, designing a webpage, analyzing and sorting bones, and restoring art. The girls selected four workshops and also attend three science related assemblies, Birds of the Wild, Physics Circus, and Almost, Mr. Edison.
The Saturday conference was held in on March 8, 2008 at Sycamore School, 1750 W. 64th St., Indianapolis. For additional information please contact Judith Mills (317-202-2538) at jmills@sycamoreschool.org or Pam Westermann at pwestermann@sycamoreschool.org. |
