Curiosity, Confidence, Challenge! is a one-day conference held in Indianapolis for girls of middle school age. The purpose of the conference is to introduce girls to careers in science, technology, engineering and math before they enter high school. It is designed to stimulate interest in these careers so that the girls may select high school courses that will lead to success in college and beyond.
The conference will be held on March 10, 2012
at Sycamore School, 1750 W. 64th St., Indianapolis. The format of
the conference is a series of small group workshops led by women
whose professions include architecture, mechanical engineering,
pharmacy and surgery.
-
The girls will participate in four hands-on
workshops, selected from a list of 26 career options. (see a full
list when clicking on the online registration link.)
-
They will
also attend two science-related assemblies: Liquid Nitrogen
Cryogenic Show by Purdue University, and Crime Scene Science by
Mobile Ed Productions.
-
At lunchtime, Utopia Wildlife will
present a program on Animal Conservation.
The cost to attend the conference is $35 which
includes the day's activities and lunch. Registration is limited to
400 girls and the conference fills up quickly.
Although parents may not attend the workshops
with their daughter, they are encouraged to attend the free and
engaging Parent Forum. Internet Safety Expert Valerie Baten, from
Online Architecture, will present "Your Kids and the Internet: What
You Don't Know Could Hurt You".
