UNIT 1: RENAISSANCE ART AND ARCHITECTURE

UNIT 2: BAROQUE AND ROCOCO ART AND ARCHITECTURE

The figures will be cut out and arranged on a black background to approximate the huge scale and CHIAROSCURO of the Baroque era.

UNIT 3: THE AGE OF REVOLUTION: NEOCLASSICISM, ROMANTICISM AND REALISM

Introduction with slides. Students will discuss landscape art and learn to draw trees realistically, drawing outside whenever possible. Final project: students will create a Realist or Romantic landscape.

AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH UNIT, STUDENTS MAY BE ASKED TO SUBMIT (AT LEAST) FOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE WORKS THEY HAVE VIEWED. ONE QUESTION MUST BE FROM AN AESTHETIC PERSPECTIVE, ONE FROM A CRITICAL PERSPECTIVE, ONE FROM A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE AND ONE QUESTION ABOUT PRODUCTION.
