The year will begin with a lengthy review of color theory using appropriate demonstrations and visuals.
Units:
Color- review of previous studies; color schemes: complementary, analogous, monochromatic, triadic; effect of light quality.
Value-review of previous studies; shading; 3-dimensional effects.
Texture-review of previous studies; use of media.
Shape-review of previous studies; expand upon positive and negative space, distortion (see principles).
Line - review previous studies.
Form-review previous studies.
Principles will generally be discussed as they apply to projects, as in Grade One. However, certain principles will receive stronger focus:
Distortion
Symmetry
Positive and Negative Space
Pattern
Other principles will include (but not be limited to): balance, gradation, variety, contrast, opposition, unity, similarity (relatedness), and overlapping.
Media and methods will include (but not be limited to): crayon, charcoal, marker, oil pastel, watercolor, glue, pencil, paper, paper batik, multi-media, resist, and cut and paste.

This project reviews SHAPE, POSITIVE and NEGATIVE SPACE and SYMMETRY. |
 |
This project reviews color theory we learned in grade one. All these PRIMARY, SECONDARY, INTERMEDIATE and TERTIARY COLORS were made using only RED, YELLOW, and BLUE crayons. |
 |
This project reviews SHAPE and introduces the principle of DISTORTION. |
 |
In this project the students further their understanding of color theory by mixing PRIMARIES and SECONDARIES to create a wide variety of hues. |
