Academics and Programs

Sycamore School provides a full-time educational program specifically designed to meet the needs of academically gifted students from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade. The school is organized into three divisions, each overseen by a division head:

Division Grades Head of Division
Early Childhood EC1 (2 years, 8 months) through Kindergarten Interim Head Francine Clayton
Lower School Grades 1 - 4 Glenna Lykens
Middle School Grades 5 - 8 Mike Waller

Sycamore offers the fast-paced curriculum and intellectual depth that gifted learners need to reach their potential. The faculty sets criteria for evaluating students' academic progress, and it promotes and expects the development of personal responsibility, task commitment, self-discipline, independent learning, and respectful conduct. High standards of behavior and performance, as well as high aptitude, are expected.

Sycamore has an ongoing commitment to leadership in developing and improving teaching methods, learning strategies, and curricula in gifted education. Its teachers are dedicated to learning from others in gifted education and to sharing their experience and expertise with the larger community for the educational enrichment of all children. Sycamore teachers and administrators are frequent presenters at state and national conferences regarding gifted education.
